The Kiwi's performing a Haka before the race starts.Everybody is ready on the start line ...... and so we are off and running.The altitude, cold and roughness of the terrain make for a tough start.
As well as competitors the porters and yak trains start their own 20 mile 3 miles - The sweep team arrive at Lobouche and checks that all competitors are safely through.6 miles - Dropping down towards Pheriche the terrain improves and the temperatures rise. It is still tough going, but not as bad as at the start.13 miles - Coming down towards Deboche the sweep team catches up the slowest runners and push them along to try and avoid the cut-off time at Tengboche.
14 miles - The aid station at Tengboche .15 miles - Competitors crossing the bridge below Tengboche .16 miles - The 350m climb up towards Sarnassa takes it toll on everybody.20 miles - The leading competitors approach the aid station at Chorkung.

As darkness falls the temperature drops ...... but that doesn't diminish the bright smiles ...... or the sense of pride and achievement in finishing.For some it was a hard experience ...
